The World Fisheries Day was celebrated at FC&RI, Ponneri by inviting school students in and around Ponneri for elocution competition on the theme “Blue revocation for better economy” and drawing competition on the theme “Conservation of fishery resources for future. Six schools with a total of forty two students participated in the events conducted and prizes were distributed to the winners. During the Prize distribution ceremony, Dr. D. Manikandavelu, Dean-in-Charge briefed the audience about the importance of the fisheries sector and also administered the pledge for the World Fisheries Day. The chief guest, Dr. Glory Ravikumar, Professor, Tamil Department, LNG College in her address briefed about the reference of fisheries in ancient Tamil culture and books. The prizes for the students was sponsored by the Branch Library, Ponneri. Ms. S. Agnes Daney Angela, Asst. Professor, Department of Fisheries Extension coordinated the programme.
