The NSS unit of Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi, a constituent college of Tamil Nadu Fisheries University organized an awareness programme on ‘Personal hygiene and Eradication of Dengue’ on 03.08.2017. This programme is held as part of the ‘Swatchhta Pakwada’ proposed by the Government of India during the fortnight starting from 01.08.2017. Dr.G.Sugumar, Dean, Fisheries College and Research Institute inaugurated the programme and stressed the importance of following personal hygiene by the inmates of FCRI hostel. Dr. Ramprasath, the district training officer of the Thoothukudi district public health department delivered a lecture on the general hygiene with special emphasis on eradication of dengue. Mr. Brighton, PA to DD health services, Mr. Ramasamy Raja, the block health supervisor and Mr. Kamatchi, health inspector also participated and demonstrated the way of destroying potential dengue breeding grounds. All the staff and students of this college benefitted from this programme. The students also trained and engaged in dengue eradication methods in the campus of this institution. Health drink to protect against dengue is also distributed to all participants. Mr.M.Muruganantham, NSS programme officer coordinated the event. As a followup several events as guided under ‘Swatchhta Pakwada’ will be organized during this fortnight.
