TNFU - WAS (APC) organized IIIIS'17 on 03.12.17

The International Workshop on Innovative Integration and Intensification in Indian Shrimp Industry “IIIIS’17”was organised by Fisheries College and Research Institute, Ponneri,a constituent college of  Tamil Nadu Fisheries University, in collaboration with the World Aquaculture Society – Asian Pacific Chapter on 03.12.2017, at Hotel Le Royal Meridien, Chennai. Dr. B. Ahilan, Convener and Dean in-charge, welcomed the gathering.  Dr. S. Felix, Patron and Vice – Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Fisheries Universityin his  presidentialaddress statedthat the shrimp industry plays a vital role in ensuring good foreign exchange and protein security of the country.Hence, the demand for shrimp farming has been increasing day-by-day.In addition, the Vice-Chancellor also underlined that the production challenges like disease outbreak has to be addressed properly by following Best Management Practices (BMPs) for enhancing the production without any adverse effect.Dr. A.G.Ponnaiah, the Guest of Honour,appreciated the efforts of TNFU in organizing such “need of the hour” workshop and emphasized the importance of the workshop in intensifying the shrimp production in India.

Mrs.KrongkanitRakcharoen, Royal Thai Consulate,the chief guest of the day in heraddressstatedthat Shrimp is one of the important and widely cultured species as it has the highest preference among the seafood consumers. She added that the deliberation of this International Workshop would help the farmers as well as entrepreneurs to bring about the integration of the existing knowledge with the recent innovations for the betterment of the industry.Dr.FarshadShishehchian, President and CEO, in his felicitation address briefed the importance of Shrimp industry in the global economy. The inaugural session was followed by the technical deliberations including the talks and presentations of international experts and Indian scientists having expertise in the shrimp industry. In this workshop, around 120 participants including research scholars, shrimp farmers and aquaculture industry people from various parts of the country participated.Dr. A. Uma, Organising Secretary proposed the vote of thanks.
