Dr. M.NAGOOR MEERAN Director In-charge of Extension Education, Nagapattinam. He obtained B.F.Sc. and M.Sc. (Ag.Extn.) degrees from the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) Coimbatore, India during 1981 and 1983 respectively.  After a brief  stint as Research Assistant in the Tamil Nadu State Department of Fisheries, he joined as Assistant Director of Extension Education, Directorate of Extension Education, TNAU during 1984.  He worked for nearly eight years in the TNAU undertaking teaching, research and extension education.  He was involved in Distance Education programmes (like Farm school on All India Radio, correspondence courses) production of educational audio cassettes, preparation of extension publications, organizing Farmer’s Days etc.,  He joined the Department of Fisheries Extension, Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University during 1992.  During March, 1994 he was placed at the Veterinary University Training and Research Centre, Thanjavur.  From March 1994 to April 2008 he worked as Fisheries Extension Scientist at the Veterinary University Training and Research Centre at Thanjvur and Regional Resarch Centre of the Tamilnadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University at Pudukkottai.  During this tenure at out stations, he undertook    transfer of technology works in various trades of fisheries.

He conducted more than 200 training programmes both on-campus and off-campus in the fields of carp culture, carp seed production, fresh water prawn culture, ornamental fish culture, fishculture in rural ponds, fish culture in farm ponds, mud crab and lobster fattening and preparation of value-added fish products for farmers, farm women, fisherfolk, entrepreneurs and unemployed rural youth.  He was involved in the transfer of scientific fish culture technologies like polyculture of carps and freshwater prawns, male and female prawn segregation in the nursery, all male prawn culture, incorporation nursery ponds as an integral part of fish farms, improved supplementary feeding, improved broodstock feeding, multiple stocking and multiple harvest.  These technology transfer programmes were conducted in the liaison with the State Fisheries Department, Marine Products Export Development Authority, NABARD, KVKs, SAU, NGOs, DRDAs, Women Development corporation, Agriculture Department, Co-operative Department, MSSRF etc.He had seven years of experience in teaching.  He handled undergraduate and post graduate courses in Agricultural extension and Fisheries Extension.  He is also involved in the preparation two U.G. courses in the NAIP funded e-course development for B.F.Sc. programme. He has put up more than  20 years of experience in research.  The major fields of research include adoption of technologies by farmers, extension communication, impact studies on programmes, marketing behavior, field level constraints in technology  transfer and adoption and Indigenous technical knowledge in fisheries.  He has sofar published 20 research circles in scientific journals.  He has been associated with four externally funded research projects funded by the ICAR, ICSSR and GOMBRT.  His other publications include 8 seminar / Conference papers, 10 training manuals, 30 extension folders and more than 50 popular articles.
